Since the 2020 school closures, educators have been seeking ways to help students accelerate learning to recover lost ground. At Lexia®, we continually evaluate the efficacy of our products to ensure they have the greatest possible impact on student learning, particularly in real-world situations.
All of Lexia’s language and literacy programs, Lexia® Core5® Reading, Lexia® PowerUp Literacy®, and Lexia® English Language Development®, have been proven to help students accelerate learning during the pandemic and beyond.
Core5 Accelerates Post-Pandemic Learning
RAND Corporation, an independent, non-profit research organization, recently evaluated Core5’s effect on accelerating reading gains post-pandemic school closings. The study tracked and gauged students’ progress against the NWEA’s Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP) Growth Reading assessment, which measures grade-level reading achievement and growth.
The new research study found:
- 54% of all Core5 students outperformed the comparison group’s median achievement on spring reading assessments.
- All students, by grade level and by sub-group, accelerated faster than comparison groups.
- Even the lowest-performing students on the fall MAP assessment who met the usage targets experienced substantial gains.
- RAND researchers also stated they saw the potential that the accumulated benefits over multiple years of Core5 usage could be substantial.
PowerUp Helps Students Learn Faster
Improved Access to On-Grade Content: In a recent case study, researchers from RAND found students starting below grade level who used Lexia programs (Core5 and/or PowerUp) made substantial progress toward accessing grade-level content by the end of the year.
Multiple Years of Growth: For students who used PowerUp with fidelity, 53% covered three or more grade levels of skills in a single year. (PowerUp 22-23 annual report)
