Starting Early With Lexia Core5 Reading Grows Strong Readers
Little aha moments—that’s what drew Trish Roberts to the classroom.
Teaching is her second career, and in just five short years, she has taught nearly every elementary grade. However, she wasn’t introduced to Lexia® until arriving at Bossier Elementary School in Louisiana.
Roberts said she started teaching in a state where educators don’t have much support when teaching foundational skills, so she was amazed to see how Lexia® Core5® Reading lifts up both students and educators. “I think Lexia as a whole program allows teachers to be able to facilitate learning, but also have student ownership,” she said.
Now, as she teaches kindergarten students for the first time, her little readers are loving their victories. “Anytime someone completes a whole unit, I put on ‘Party in the USA’ and they get up and dance around!” she said.
Roberts said one of her favorite parts of using Core5 is the red apple feature. Her students quickly learned the symbol means they’re struggling with a concept. “If they constantly see it, they don’t keep just trying,” she said. “They stop, take a minute and know that I need to get my teacher’s help.” Roberts then pulls up the students’ Lexia reports to see exactly how to help them past the stumbling block.
