Core5 Implementation Scenarios

Core5 In the Classroom

  • English Language Learners

Lexia addresses the development of oral language, reading, spelling, and writing skills for English Language Learners.  With Lexia, ELL students can develop their fundamental reading skills with the rest of their classmates and receive student-driven and teacher-directed personalized instruction.

In Core5, when a student first logs in, an automatic placement tool places the student at the appropriate language comprehension and phonics skill development level. There is an explicit and systematic structure to the student activities as well as embedded scaffolding that allows for differentiated instruction. For students who continue to struggle, teacher-led lessons with structured, scripted instructional strategies target areas of weakness.

For ELLs, audio directions are available in Spanish, Mandarin, Portuguese, Arabic, Vietnamese, and Haitian-Creole.

  • Blended Learning

Lexia Reading Core5 and Lexia Strategies seamlessly fit into new or existing blended learning implementations.  Both reading programs provide daily progress monitoring data as well as resources to connect student performance data to classroom instruction, setting the foundation for connecting each component of a strong blended learning implementation.  Most commonly, Core5 and Strategies are implemented in classroom rotation, computer lab rotation, and 1:1 device blended learning models.

In a blended learning classroom with Lexia, while some students are pulled aside for direct instruction using Lexia Lessons, other students can work independently or collaboratively to further develop automaticity and expand their expressive skills using Lexia Skill Builders and Lexia Instructional Connections.

  • Multi-Tier Classrooms

Lexia Reading Core5 addresses all strands of reading in grades pre-K–5 and can be implemented for all tiers into your classroom center rotations. During your center rotations, students receive both student-driven and teacher-directed personalized learning through fun and engaging online activities to build fundamental reading skills.  Based on student progress and success, the program prescribes the instructional intensity needed in order to increase each student’s likelihood of reaching end-of-year, grade-level benchmarks.

Students are placed automatically at the proper level based on their performance and work independently on developing their fundamental reading skills on the computer or iPad in targeted activities based on individual needs.  The program provides explicit, systematic, adaptive learning, scaffolding instruction for students as they struggle and advancing them to higher levels as they demonstrate proficiency.

  • Intervention

Lexia Reading Core5 is uniquely suited to support Response to Intervention and Multi-Tiered System of Supports models.

Data-driven action plans help teachers maximize their time by focusing attention where it is needed most by identifying and grouping students for instruction based on risk of reading failure, tracking the effectiveness of intervention with real-time diagnostic reports and trend lines, and prescribing instructional intensity needed to improve performance on grade-level assessments.

  • Lexia Outside of the Classroom

Lexia supports flexible implementation strategies that extend learning beyond the classroom and school day. Lexia licenses allow free access for students at home as well as in extended day settings such as before- and after-school programs, or in community centers and public libraries.

In many schools, student access to the computer is limited, and the challenge of prioritizing and allocating computer time to each student can create some difficult decisions.  With Lexia, students can log on to their online reading program at any time and continue on their individualized learning paths via web browser, iPad, or desktop download. Because customers can install the program on as many devices as necessary, schools can leverage available hardware resources at home or in community centers to ensure that every student receives the required minutes-per-week on Lexia.
