Partnership and Growth: LETRS Success In North Carolina

Before children can receive interventions to support their literacy instruction, districts and state governments need to empower teachers with the skills they need to deliver it.

In this testimonial video, Amy Rhyne, former Senior Director for the Office of Early Learning in the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, discusses how she and her office were able to increase student literacy rates in her state by training more than 44,000 educators using Lexia’s professional learning program, Lexia® LETRS®.

Post-COVID, Rhyne and her team found that less than 40% of students were reading at or above grade level by third grade. She shares in the video how the Excellent Schools Act positioned early literacy support as a priority and named Lexia as the preferred professional learning partner.

Rhyne talked about the decision to adopt LETRS, why it was so impactful for educators and students, and the success she saw across districts post-training. Since 2021, 70,000 students are now above benchmarks, and Rhyne has confidence this trend will only continue.
