Core5 Contributes to Foundational Literacy Growth in Prince George's County
To meet the expectations of the Maryland State Department of Education’s Ready to Read Act, many Maryland LEAs are still working to close skill gaps and support students who have reading difficulties.
Results from Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) can serve as a model for others to consider as they work to enhance their reading instruction. This infographic highlights PGCPS’s results on key state assessments following the use of Lexia® Core5® Reading for K–3 supplemental instruction during 2023–2024.
Some of the outcomes PGCPS’s students achieved, when comparing beginning-of-year to end-of-year results, include:
The average of students in grades K–3 identified as at risk for reading difficulties decreased by 16.3%.
The average of students in grades K–3 who received Core5 instruction decreased by 13.125%.
The number of grade K students identified as at risk for reading difficulties decreased by 16.8%.
The number of grade 1 students identified as at risk for reading difficulties decreased by 19.9%.
The number of grade 2 students identified as at risk for reading difficulties decreased by 11.7%.
The number of grade 3 students identified as at risk for reading difficulties decreased by 16.8%.
