Core5 in the DMV: Driving Literacy, Improving Scores
Lexia® Core5® Reading is strengthening literacy skills for students in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) region.
Research reviewed the impact Core5 had on spring 2023 Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) scores for students in grades 3–5. It compared assessment outcomes for 317 schools using Core5 with those for 555 schools not using the science of reading-based program.
Among the highlights of the results:
Students at Core5 schools in Maryland scored 1.85% higher on 2023 MCAP testing than students at non-Core5 schools
Reading proficiency scores were 1.80% better for third grade students and 2.14% better for fourth grade students using Core5 in Maryland
The research included 190,027 students in grades 3–5 from 872 elementary schools in 24 districts, with studies and data including:
