Across Arizona, educators are focused on implementing supplemental and intervention programs grounded in the science of reading to accelerate secondary students’ development of critical literacy skills. Research-proven programs can help educators reach state literacy goals by providing actionable, real-time data to teachers, school administrators, and district administrators.

With embedded progress monitoring, Lexia® PowerUp Literacy® gives every teacher—regardless of their area of expertise—instant insight into student growth. Proven to be up to five times as effective as the average middle school intervention, PowerUp enables students to achieve multiple years of growth in a single academic year. The program supports adolescent learners with high-interest, authentic texts and motivational elements that respect their maturity.

Educators can assess skill levels and deliver targeted instruction without pausing for formal testing, leading to stronger teaching performance, higher retention, and better student outcomes across schools and districts.

During the 2025–2026 school year, PowerUp was used by 16,147 Arizona students in grades 6–12 across 181 schools, totaling 183,255 hours of use. Among those who engaged with the program with fidelity:

• 53% of these students covered three grade levels of skills in just one year, meaning they moved up one PowerUp Zone or more across all three instructional strands (Word Study, Grammar, and Reading Comprehension)
• 7% or less of students were working on K–2 skills by the end of the school year
