Professional Learning for Educators
The LETRS® (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) Suite is professional learning that provides educators and administrators with deep knowledge to be literacy and language experts in the science of reading. Developed by renowned literacy experts Dr. Louisa Moats, Dr. Carol Tolman, and Dr. Lucy Hart Paulson, it is a flexible literacy professional learning solution for educators and administrators. LETRS teaches the skills needed to master the fundamentals of reading instruction—phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, writing, and language.
Why LETRS?
Research shows that only 35% of students are reading proficiently, but 95% of students CAN learn to read. And while teachers are the most essential factor in student success, only about half of teaching institutions effectively prepare teachers for literacy instruction. Teaching reading requires a deep understanding of the processes and science behind it. LETRS is the professional learning program rooted in the science of reading that empowers teachers.
LETRS for educators is an investment in teachers' literacy knowledge and professional practice. Teachers gain essential skills to master the fundamentals of literacy instruction required to apply and transform student learning.

LETRS® for Early Childhood Educators
LETRS® For Early Childhood Educators provides deep knowledge of literacy instruction for the youngest learners. The more children know about language and literacy before they begin kindergarten and first grade, the better equipped they are to succeed in reading and beyond. Learn more.
LETRS® for Administrators
LETRS® for Administrators is for district and school administrators and their leadership teams. Intended to complement the LETRS professional learning course, the program teaches administrators about the what and why of the science of reading and gives them the knowledge of systems, implementation science, and sustainability that they need to implement a successful literacy initiative. Administrators learn how to assemble and collaborate with their school leadership team, manage goal setting, develop assessment plans, and make effective data-based decisions.

Engaged Students

Studies have shown that only 51% of higher education teaching preparation programs include the science of reading. Learning to read is incredibly complex, and teaching reading requires a deep understanding of the processes and science behind it. When teachers do not have the knowledge and skills to teach reading to all students, a number of students lag behind and struggle. Problems compound and the comprehension gap continues to widen, while teachers are left feeling frustrated and ineffective. Through LETRS, teachers learn how to deliver effective reading instruction to meet every student’s needs.
Learn More about Engaged StudentsEmpowered Educators

LETRS empowers educators by going beyond the essential components of literacy. LETRS gives teachers the skills they need to master how to teach the five essential components of literacy, plus writing, spelling, and oral language. Teachers also learn how to implement instructional routines and activities, as well as how to differentiate instruction to meet the literacy needs of all students in the classroom. LETRS further offers Bridge to Practice activities that ensure teachers can transfer what they learn in LETRS to the classroom.

Learning to read is complex! Reading requires multiple parts of the brain learning to work together. Teaching reading requires a deep understanding of the science behind how we learn to read, why we spell the way we do, and how phonemic awareness and phonics lead to comprehension—and without this knowledge, teachers are left feeling ill-prepared. That’s why LETRS bridges decades of evidence-based research into classroom success.
