Lexia in Action at Charter Schools

A turnaround story: When only 10% of students were reading at grade level, leadership leveraged Lexia® Core5® Reading to deliver targeted intervention and enrichment. In just two years, proficiency soared to ~40%, with 82% of Core5 users reading at or above grade level. The school leaders tightened implementation fidelity, appointed a staff “champion,” and aligned Core5 lessons with whole-group instruction—producing fast, measurable results and boosting teacher engagement.

In 2020, leaders at Uncommon Schools replaced a cumbersome ELL curriculum with Lexia English Language Development™, achieving striking results within a year:

• 80% of Emergent Bilingual scholars advanced ≥1 NYSESLAT proficiency level (vs. 37% prior)

• 71% student fidelity usage

• 19% advanced a band within the program itself

Educators at Friendship Public Charter Schools rolled out Lexia Aspire® Professional Learning, Core5, and Lexia® PowerUp Literacy® across secondary grades in 2023 to implement a systemwide science of reading approach.
