Lexia Programs Deliver Science of Reading Success
Like so many educators, Julie Klein was shocked when she was first introduced to the science of reading. She learned about it at a conference, and it hit hard. “It was like just a weight on me because I’ve been doing this wrong for how many years?” she said.
As curriculum director for pre-K to fifth grade for the Lowndes County School District in Valdosta, Georgia, Klein was determined to bring the change to her teachers, but the question was: How?
She and district leaders found Lexia® LETRS® Professional Learning. All of the district’s elementary and middle school educators now get comprehensive LETRS training.
“With Lexia®, we were able to look at where all of our students are and then have a goal of where we want to be,” Klein said. She added that the district’s ongoing professional learning for science of reading is year-round, and offers educators clear guidance and lesson plans to keep everyone on track.
LETRS was just the start of the Lexia journey.
Lowndes County School District has 11,000 students spread across seven elementary schools, three middle schools, and one high school. After training the teachers, district leaders added Lexia® Core5® Reading for elementary students and Lexia® PowerUp Literacy® in the middle schools.
“It is all there for you,” Klein said. “If you use the program with fidelity, it will work.”
