Lexia Gives Educators a Learning Trifecta That Produces Measurable Results
For the past 20 years, Maura Donoghue has had many important roles, from classroom teacher to principal to administrator. These days, she is the elementary literacy coordinator for Andover Public Schools near Boston.
The district is very diverse, with more than 70 languages spoken by students. Each student has very specific needs, and Andover educators needed help reaching every single one. Donoghue introduced Lexia® programs in her schools two years ago, and she calls Lexia® LETRS® Professional Learning, Lexia® Core5® Reading, and Lexia® PowerUp Literacy® transformative.
“I'm learning something new every day, even now,” she said. “LETRS is fascinating. I participate in LETRS right alongside my teachers. I continue to learn something with every unit in every session.”
Donoghue said one of the most fascinating features of Lexia is its ability to differentiate and to meet students where they are, remediate when students need remediation, and enrich when students are ready for that next push.
She also appreciates how LETRS training brings everyone from classroom teachers to special educators together to figure out the best way they can work together across different content areas to help create pathways to literacy.
Donoghue said she needed to show district leaders Lexia was worth the time, effort, and money. To do that, she needed to show results, but said that was easy to do. “It sold itself with regard to the great progress that students were making,” she said.
