Lexia Core5 Reading Motivates Young Readers Above and Beyond Grade Level
Literacy is a moving target, especially during the early years.
Even though students sit in the same classroom every day, they each learn the material at their own pace. This means elementary educators need to focus on different skills for each young reader, but there is rarely enough time in a day to accomplish that, let alone do it well.
That’s where Lexia® Core5® Reading came into play for Bossier Parish School District educators in Louisiana. First grade teacher Caroline Prejean said she can now ensure each student gets the personalized instruction they need. “It really helps me as a teacher to be more aware of what they’re struggling with and where I need to pull that small-group instruction,” she said.
Prejean also said she and her fellow educators are not just seeing progress with the students who are struggling, but Core5 is helping those who started on grade level. “I’ve seen them grow even more to where they’re above level,” she said.
The Core5 graphics, as well as the music and celebrations that happen when students finish units, keep them motivated and make the learning process fun. Prejean says it’s not just first grade students benefiting from Lexia®. Her fellow educators say older students still struggling with pandemic learning loss are finally filling in the gaps in their foundational skills by using the program.
