Administrators, download the PDF, PowerUp Literacy Evidence Benchmarks Not Taught in Isolation.
Find out how, with Lexia® PowerUp Literacy®, students’ intensive reading skills wholly integrate in grades 6–9.
For example, persuasive techniques are covered in several separate sections. In Level 13 Reading Comprehension, the object is to identify rhetorical appeals in a text. This includes reading passages by Malala Yousafzai. For grades 6–8, the B.E.S.T. Standards supporting benchmarks are BEST.ELA.6.R.2.3, BEST.ELA.6.R.2.2, BEST.ELA.6.R.2.1, BEST.ELA.K12.EE.1.1, and BEST.ELA.K12.EE.2.1.
For grade 9, the supporting benchmarks ELA.9.R.2.3 and ELA.9.R.3.4 are added. The object also is to evaluate the support an author uses to develop the central idea(s) throughout a text.
This kind of careful coordination of online and offline/paper-based activities gives every action and every lesson meaning. Students’, teachers’, and administrators’ time is used to its greatest effect, with no time wasted.
