Georgia District Increases First Grade ACCESS Scores Almost 70 Points
In 2022, only 44% of third grade students in Georgia were designated “ready” to advance to the next grade/level in literacy.
But literacy begins with language. This is particularly evident for Emergent Bilingual students, or English Language Learners. Both language proficiency and reading scores can improve when students receive additional language practice, especially in speaking and listening to academic English.
One Georgia district turned to Lexia English Language Development™ as its research-proven solution, resulting in impressive proficiency results on WIDA ACCESS.
The district supported its ELL students with Lexia English, a research-proven English language development program that helps schools and districts improve performance, meet district and state standards goals, and increase graduation rates. District leaders wanted a program that aligns with multiple language proficiency standards and could provide support for all levels of language ability.
By year end, the results were significant. First grade students who used the program with fidelity earned a nearly 70-point gain and grade K–2 Emergent Bilingual students racked up an impressive 10% overall increase on the WIDA ACCESS.
This district study demonstrates this remarkable success is linked to consistent Lexia English usage. Imagine what Lexia® evidence-based literacy and language instruction can do for all students.
