[Testimonial] Lexia English: From Representation To Progress
Representation matters.
Lexia English Language Development™ uses culturally sustaining practices and an asset-based orientation to empower Emergent Bilinguals to thrive and achieve language and literacy proficiency in English.
In this video educators across the country talk about why they love Lexia English and how it has impacted the lives of their students.
Lexia English features 17 characters students interact with who have different home languages and accents, based on those not only across the U.S. but also around the world. The inclusion of accent variation is part of the program’s asset-based orientation which values multilingualism.
As one Lexia English educator says, “They [The students] feel validated to have a character who is representative of them, and the characters are diverse and look like them and sound like them. I think it’s a validating experience from a student’s perspective.”
Through this interactive representation, students not only gain English proficiency but also the confidence to speak up and participate in the classroom. One Lexia English educator explains, “They are now raising hands and participating because they have more access to language.”
