Lexia Helps Arkansas Educators Implement New Science of Reading Curriculum
For James Boyd, like most seasoned educators, listening to students read a book fluently is a true highlight.
“When I walk into kindergarten and first grade classrooms, and I hear students picking up a book and reading that book fluently, it gives me such joy,” said Boyd, executive director with KIPP Delta Public Schools in Blytheville and Helena, Arkansas.
State legislators recently mandated the introduction of science of reading curriculum into classrooms across Arkansas, and although Boyd said he understands how mandates can be met with resistance, Lexia® helped his teachers adapt and excel with the implementation of Lexia® Core5® Reading and Lexia® PowerUp Literacy®.
The research-proven programs accelerate the development of literacy skills for pre-K–12 students at all levels of their reading journey while providing educators valuable data to help guide instruction.
With Core5, its Adaptive Blended Learning model offers explicit, systematic, and personalized instruction that allows educators to deliver differentiated literacy instruction. With PowerUp, rooted in the science of reading and proven to be up to five times as effective as the average middle school reading intervention, it enables students to make multiple years of growth in a single academic year.
