Lexia Helps a Louisiana School District Recover From Pandemic Learning Loss
Lexia® LETRS® Professional Learning is so closely aligned with the Lafayette Parish School System’s science of reading curriculum that ELA Library Science Specialist Catherine Guillory says it’s helping teachers combat COVID-related learning loss. “It just kind of takes a lot of the guesswork out of it for the teacher,” Guillory says.
Educators at the Louisiana school system are currently using Lexia® Core5® Reading, Lexia® PowerUp Literacy®, and most recently, Lexia English Language Development™, and teachers are really pleased. “It doesn't take away their autonomy, it doesn't take away their personality, but it allows them to really make good decisions quickly.” It also allows students to practice skills individually and at a fast pace. Teachers get instant information about each student’s needs through the easy-to-use dashboard.
In this short video, Guillory highlights her team’s experience introducing the science of reading and how Lexia’s portfolio of programs can address all of her readers’ needs. Core5 accelerates literacy development for pre-K–5 students, while PowerUp improves on those gains in grades 6–12. Lexia English supports Emergent Bilingual students.
The parish’s educators’ goal of having 95% of their students reading on or above grade level is getting closer every year thanks to their partnership with Lexia®.
