See the Growth: Virginia SOL Scores Improve Alongside PowerUp Use
Lexia® PowerUp Literacy® works, and results of end-of-year assessments show just how effective the program has been for one Virginia school division.
A large, urban division used PowerUp to accelerate learning for its students in grades 6–8 during 2022–2023. The results of the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Reading assessment that year tell the story of the division’s success.
Explore this Virginia division's end-of-year reading achievement.
Rooted in the science of reading, PowerUp accelerates literacy gains for students in grades 6–12 who are at risk of not meeting college- and career-ready standards.
PowerUp splits its personalized instruction into three strands: word study, grammar, and comprehension. It also provides ongoing real-time student progress data through Lexia’s Assessment Without Testing®, so instructors can gain insights about student progress even before year-end assessments.
Highlights of PowerUp’s success for one Virginia division during 2022–2023 include these state SOL Reading outcomes:
95% of students who reached the advanced zone in all three Power Up strands passed the test
83% of students who reached the advanced zone in any one strand passed the test
Students working on higher levels in PowerUp were likely to have higher test scores
The Virginia Department of Education includes PowerUp on its list of approved Virginia Literacy Act (VLA) intervention and supplemental programs for grades 6–8.
