Virginia Divisions See Results with Science of Reading High-Quality Instructional Materials
With the right state-approved, evidence-based reading resource, Virginia students can and will succeed.
Lexia® Core5® Reading is approved by the Virginia Literacy Act as a K–5 intervention program for phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, covering all of the rubric components. Core5 is also approved for use in the ALL In Tutoring Reading Initiative for students in grades 3–5 who are not proficient on the Virginia Standards of Learning.
Educators across Virginia are using Core5 to improve student literacy skills—without adding more work to teachers’ already full plates.
Carrie Leestma, a literacy intervention education specialist at Fairfax County Public Schools said, “We really use Lexia® as a way to support differentiated instruction for all of our students who need that evidence-based literacy instruction. And it’s really supported us as we shifted to the science of reading... The beauty of Lexia is that it supports students in all areas of literacy.”
The results speak for themselves. Eighty-eight percent of students in Virginia who used Core5 with fidelity advanced at least one grade level of material for the 2022–2023 school year.
