Supporting Early Reading Development in Utah EISP K-3
Utah’s Early Interactive Software Program (EISP) aims to strengthen literacy skills for students in grades K–3. Through EISP, schools can select computer-based reading programs to supplement classroom learning.
In 2024–25, Lexia® Core5® Reading accounted for 59% of all software users, the largest share among vendor programs that were part of the EISP initiative. Built on the science of reading, Core5 is a research-proven program that accelerates the development of literacy skills for pre-K–5 students of all abilities.
Core5 has been an effective choice for accelerating literacy learning through EISP. This flyer provides details about EISP students’ use of Core5.
Highlights include the following:
EISP students who used Core5 with fidelity advanced an average of 1.34 grade levels of material during the 2024–25 school year.
Over 45% of EISP students who used Core5 during 2024–25 met the target of 20–60 minutes of use each week.
The 2024–25 results are consistent with outcomes from the previous nine years.
The relationship between Core5 usage and predicted Acadience Reading scores was significant across all four grades.
The flyer also lists action items for school leaders to support EISP's continuation, including sharing stories about student success through the use of Core5 in the state initiative.
