Accelerating Literacy for Students in Grades 6–12
ACADEMIC YEAR 2024–2025
In Canadian classrooms, Lexia® PowerUp Literacy® is helping students in grades 6–12 achieve rapid reading growth. During the 2024–2025 academic year, 34,000 students and 6,200 educators across 2,200 schools used PowerUp to build foundational and comprehension skills through structured, age-appropriate literacy instruction.
Students made substantial progress: 62% advanced across three or more grade levels, and the number of students working on advanced comprehension skills was five times greater by year's end. The percentage of students working on K–2 skills dropped below 5% across all strands, while those working on advanced skills rose by 52%. On average, students completed 74 skills and 78 Skill Checks, spending about 11 minutes per week in each strand.
Educators appreciate PowerUp for both themselves and their students, with 86% saying it is easy to use. Together, teachers delivered 14,529 Lexia Lessons® and 28,380 Lexia Skill Builders®, maximizing instructional time while keeping students engaged and progressing.
PowerUp is grounded in evidence, with five peer-reviewed published studies. Effect sizes range from 0.14 to 0.74, confirming its impact across diverse learner profiles. With Lexia PowerUp Literacy, accelerated learning is in action—empowering Canadian teachers and helping students catch up, keep up, and thrive.
