Lexia® PowerUp Literacy® continues to help secondary students across Canada strengthen essential reading skills and make meaningful progress toward grade-level proficiency. During the 2025–2026 school year, 31,300 students and 5,900 educators in 2,200 schools used PowerUp to support literacy development across word study, grammar, and comprehension.

Students who used the program with fidelity made substantial gains. Seventy-one percent covered three or more grade levels of skills in a single school year. The percentage of students working on advanced skills across all content strands increased from 1% at the start of the year to 64% by year end. By year end, fewer than 4% of students were working on K–2 skills across all strands, while the number working on advanced comprehension skills increased fivefold.

PowerUp combines evidence-based Structured Literacy® instruction with an age-appropriate, adaptive learning experience designed for students in grades 6–12. Students completed an average of 77 skills and 12 Skill Checks during the academic year while spending an average of 75 minutes per week working across PowerUp strands. Educators also delivered 13,657 Lexia Lessons® and 28,594 Lexia Skill Builders®, extending personalized learning through targeted instruction and independent practice.

The program is supported by seven peer-reviewed published studies, including three with Tier 1 (Strong) ratings based on Every Student Succeeds Act criteria. Reported effect sizes range from 0.14 to 0.74, demonstrating positive outcomes across diverse adolescent learner populations.

Educator feedback also highlights the program's usability, with 88% of educators reporting that PowerUp is easy to use. Together, these findings demonstrate how PowerUp helps Canadian schools address unfinished learning, accelerate literacy skill development, and provide older students with a clear path toward stronger reading proficiency.
