This resource provides an overview of Aspire’s professional learning domains. It describes how educators can teach the skills required for proficient reading and writing, with a special emphasis on areas where Emergent Bilingual students may need additional support.
Introductory Prerequisite Courses: Reviews the value of equitable literacy instruction and the role of recognizing the needs and talents of Emergent Bilinguals
Word Recognition: Provides best practices for assessing and teaching oral reading fluency, phonology, phonics, articulation, and spelling
Language Comprehension: Examines the science of second-language acquisition, structured opportunities for speaking practice, and instruction of key vocabulary words
