Implementing Instructional Equity for Today and Tomorrow

Expanding instructional equity requires more than expressed commitment; it demands strategic action. Though all students deserve the opportunity to succeed inside and outside of the classroom, systemic barriers often hinder their success. School leaders play a crucial role in dismantling these barriers by addressing each element of the instructional core—student, teacher, and content—to drive equitable outcomes for all learners. 

Students need personalized instruction that meets them where they are and provides the necessary scaffolded support. Teachers require ongoing professional learning focused on the  science of reading and data-driven tools that help them make informed instructional decisions. And to sustain equitable outcomes, school leaders must implement a Structured Literacy approach that ensures content is explicit, systematic, diagnostic, and cumulative.

Taken together, these key components of the instructional core lay the groundwork for  instructional equity, moving schools closer to achieving equitable outcomes for all learners.
