Lexia Core5 Reading can help you engage, celebrate, and extend literacy learning
The suggestions below go beyond the online student experience of Lexia® Core5® Reading to provide opportunities to engage students with digital and offline activities.
Lexia® Skill Builders®
Lexia Skill Builders provide independent, digital or paper-based practice and an opportunity for students to generalize newly learned skills. Skill Builders are automatically recommended in the Class Action Plan in myLexia after a student completes an online level of Core5. For example, after completing Level 3 online, students are ready for the Level 3 Skill Builder set. Each set includes activity pages as well as an answer key.
Digital (for electronic completion)
PDF (for paper and pencil completion)
Skill Builders are available in two formats: Digital (for electronic completion) and PDF (for paper and pencil completion).
Digital Lexia Skill Builders can be used to create assignments through Google Classroom™ or a Learning Management System (LMS) for students to complete electronically. When assigned to student partners, this digital resource supports peer collaboration in or outside the classroom.
- To access the digital Skill Builders, log in to myLexia > Resources to access the Resources Hub > Support for Instruction page. When you select a digital Lexia Skill Builder you will be prompted to make your own copy in Google Drive™ online storage service.
Using Lexia Skill Builders for Remote Learning:
- Share Skill Builders for levels that students have already completed. In some cases, you may also consider sharing Skill Builders for a student’s current level if the student is not able to access the online activities at home with a supported device.
- Younger students and early readers may need help with the directions and reading parts of the worksheets and some tasks will require collaborative work with an adult. Consider sharing answer keys with families to help set guardians up for success to better support their children.
To access and share PDF Skill Builders with families, download them from the Resources tab of myLexia.com and either:
- Email to families or share as assignments or class resources via your school’s Learning Management System or Google Classroom
- Print packets to send or mail home
- Direct families to Lexia’s At-Home Resource Hub to view and download Skill Builders; Provide recommendations to families as appropriate.
- If home printing is limited or unavailable, students can write the answers to many questions in a notebook.
Lexia® Connections
Lexia Connections provide engaging games and activities targeting essential components of reading. The suggested multi-sensory activities are ideal opportunities for oral expression and collaboration. In addition, Lexia Connections are designed to be implemented flexibly with little need for preparation or additional materials.
- Lexia Connections can be accessed from the Resources tab of myLexia.com.
- Search by Grade, Core5 Level, or Literacy Skill Area to find a Lexia Connection that meets the needs of your student or class.
- Curriculum Connection suggestions also link reading activities to content-area instruction in Science, Math, and Social Studies. These activities can be a resource to you as you plan lessons in other subject areas as well.
To adapt Lexia Connections for remote learning:
- To share Lexia Connections with families, download them from the Resources tab of myLexia.com and either:
- Email to families or share as assignments or class resources via your school’s Learning Management System or Google Classroom
- Print packets to send or mail home
- Direct families to Lexia’s At-Home Resource Hub to view and download Lexia Connections; Provide recommendations to families as appropriate
- If your school is utilizing video conferencing to support remote learning, some activities included in Lexia Connections can be delivered via video. Easily identifiable icons are included on each Lexia Connection for activities that integrate either speaking or listening.
Achievement Certificates
Lexia’s Achievement Certificates can help you recognize all of the hard work that goes into completing a Core5 level.
Each time a student completes a level, you will be able to download their Achievement Certificates from the Class Action Plan in myLexia. Certificates can be shared in the classroom or during remote learning.
For remote learning, you may not be there in person to celebrate each of your students’ accomplishments, but Lexia's Achievement Certificates can still help you recognize your students’ hard work. You can share them with families through email, your school’s Learning Management System, Google Classroom, or by printing them out to mail home.
General certificates, available in both English and Spanish, can also be used to celebrate success.
Additional Resources
Lexia has additional resources to support both you and families. To practice or review concepts such as letter-sound knowledge, rhyming, or sight word reading, you may want to incorporate some of these resources into your lesson planning or families may find some of them helpful as well if students are learning from home:
We have also recently created optional, fun activity ideas that you can suggest to families to promote reading through play. Feel free to share the grade-level PDFs linked below with families or copy and paste individual activities into your lessons for the day or week! Designed for foundational through intermediate readers, most activities can be completed with everyday objects that families already have around the house.
