Lexia® English Language Development® Research
PURPOSE: The ability to effectively communicate in English is highly valuable for students who are Emergent Bilinguals. This flyer highlights findings that show how Lexia® English Language Development® can support Emergent Bilinguals advancing their English language skills.
METHOD: This flyer describes two large-scale studies—one in California and the other in Arizona. Both studies employed a quasi-experimental design, comparing Emergent Bilinguals who used Lexia English with Emergent Bilinguals who did not use the program. Outcome measures were scores on state-based assessments of English language skills.
KEY FINDINGS
- Lexia English users consistently scored higher than non-Lexia English users across grades K–5.
- Lexia English users had significantly greater odds of moving up a proficiency level than non-Lexia English users.
- Emergent Bilinguals benefitted from Lexia English regardless of home language, gender, SES level, or race/ethnicity.
