Ongoing data to drive instructional priorities
While students are working independently in the program, Lexia’s embedded assessment system, Assessment Without Testing®, provides educators with actionable, norm-referenced performance data without interrupting the flow of instruction to administer a test.  Using the data reports provided, educators can make informed decisions and prioritize instruction based on their ability to quickly see students’ probability of finishing the year at grade-level, monitor month-over-month growth in reading proficiency, and identify skill areas with which groups or individuals are struggling.
Resources for teacher-led instruction
Teachers are provided with a data-driven action plan that tells them the specific skills on where each student needs instruction.  The action plan takes the guesswork out of differentiating instruction by focusing the teacher’s time on the greatest needs in the classroom and prescribing the instructional intensity needed to help students reach their end-of-year benchmark.

The program automatically groups students—by skill—for small group instruction and provides structured, skill-specific instructional materials, called Lexia Lessons® that provide step-by-step strategies for teachers or paraprofessionals to address each student’s skill-gaps.

When a student completes a level in the program, teachers are provided with Lexia Skill Builders® — paper-and-pencil activities to help develop automaticity in their newly acquired skills.  Teachers can also access a customized certificate of achievement to recognize student progress.
Independent, student-driven learning
Using Lexia Reading Core5, students are automatically placed at the proper level and work independently — via browser, desktop client, or iPad app — to develop their foundational reading skills. The program provides explicit, systematic, adaptive learning on foundational reading skills, scaffolding students as they struggle and advancing them to higher levels as they demonstrate proficiency.  Free school-to-home access allows students to continue their independent work at home, in extended-day programs, or libraries and other community centers.
