California Extended Learning Opportunities: How Hemet USD Uses the ELO Grant/Program to Support Structured Literacy
California administrators, view the video, California Extended Learning Opportunities: How Hemet USD Uses the ELO Grant/Program to Support Structured Literacy.
California’s Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P) provides funding for after-school learning, including initiatives to accelerate students’ literacy development. In this video, Anita Williams from Hemet Unified School District shares her district’s journey to build an award-winning after-school program, which incorporates literacy learning with Lexia® Core5® Reading and Lexia® PowerUp Literacy®.
Williams finds it especially helpful that students can go through their units at home if necessary. This way, they can accelerate their learning even after hours or if they are unable to come into the school on a particular day. However, in-person participation is required for at least one day per week.
In fact, at Hemet USD, administrators are looking at a teacher option to replace homework with the weekly growth report they get from Core5 and PowerUp.
