Lexia Core5 Reading Satisfies All Criteria for WIDA PRIME V2 Correlation
Globally recognized standard for ELL instruction underscores Lexia’s rigorous approach to supporting English learners
BOSTON (August 31, 2016) – Lexia Learning, a Rosetta Stone Inc. (NYSE: RST) Company, today announced that Lexia® Core5® Reading has been recognized by WIDA as satisfying all 44 criteria under the WIDA PRIME V2 Correlation for English Language Development Standards. This designation provides further credibility for Lexia’s research-proven instructional literacy program, which is currently used by more than 2.6 million students, and has been shown to help ELL students close the academic gap.
WIDA is a consortium of more than 30 states dedicated to the design and implementation of high academic standards for English language learners (ELLs). The WIDA PRIME V2 Correlation is designed to assist educators in making informed decisions about selecting instructional materials for language education programs.
“We believe that a rigorous, systematic approach to language and literacy instruction benefits all students,” said Lexia Chief Education Officer Dr. Liz Brooke. “The WIDA standards reflect the unique instructional emphases required when supporting English learners, and our correlation to these standards highlights the important ways in which Lexia Core5 Reading helps language learners develop English literacy skills.”
Lexia Core5 Reading is a personalized learning program that is student-driven online, and teacher-directed through small-group instruction. The program supports educators in providing differentiated literacy instruction for students of all abilities in grades pre-K–5. The WIDA Prime V2 Correlation includes four sections, each with 11 specific standards. WIDA analyzed a complete cross-section of the Lexia Core5 Reading program and found that it satisfied all 44 of the standards and criteria laid out in PRIME V2—acknowledging Lexia’s ability to have a meaningful impact on student outcomes.
