Lori Silver

Secondary English Language Arts Supervisor
Arlington Public Schools, VA

Lori Silver is the Secondary English Language Arts Supervisor for Arlington Public Schools, Virginia. She has been an educator for 29 years, and has served as an elementary teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal at the secondary levels, and ELA specialist at the central office level. 

She is responsible for programmatic decision-making for ELA content in grades 6–12, to include: engaging teachers in curriculum design; monitoring instructional delivery for successful student outcomes; procuring evidence-based resources and supervising their implementation; and planning and facilitating professional learning for English and reading teachers. 

Arlington Public Schools is engaged in exciting secondary literacy initiatives, one of which includes assessing ninth and tenth students through a yearly performance-based assessment in writing. During SY21-22, APS students demonstrated a 95% pass rate on their writing assessment, for which the division is so proud of students and teachers for their hard work. 

Lori Silver has a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Mary Baldwin University, as well as a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of Scranton. She is currently a doctoral candidate at George Mason University and her dissertation research is on organizational change in the area of literacy. She is married to a middle school band director and they are the proud parents of five fur children.
