1. On the original server machine, stop the LexiaServer service so that the files will not be in use. You can do this using the Lexia Data Monitor tool, by running it and clicking on the Stop Server button.
2. After the service is stopped, copy the Databases and Licenses subfolders from the LexiaServer folder to a safe place. The LexiaServer folder by default will be in the root of the C drive on a Windows machine, and the root of the primary hard drive on OS X.
3. On the new server:
- For Windows: Insert either the Early Reading 3, Primary Reading 1, Strategies for Older Students 4 or Quick Reading Test 2 CD and run the installer. Choose to perform a "Server-Only Install", per the instructions in the product manuals.
- For OS X: Download and run LexiaServer for OS X and follow these installation instructions. Do not use the version on the product CD's.
4. Install the Lexia Data Monitor (for Windows or OS X ) on the new server. Installation and usage instructions are available here.
5. Use the Lexia Data Monitor to stop the LexiaServer service (click on the Stop Server button).
6. Copy the backups you made of the Databases and Licenses folder into the LexiaServer folder on the new machine.
7. Restart the LexiaServer service using the Lexia Data Monitor (click on the Start Server button).
8. Client machines use the server's IP address to reach the database. If the new server has a diferent IP address, each client will need to be updated. Clients may crash if they cannot locate a server running LexiaServer. To update each client, open the LLSPrefs.ini file in a text editor and edit the ServerName line to reflect the new IP address, then save it.
- For Windows: The file is located under c:\program files\lexia learning systems\llscommon on each client machine, in a default installation.
- For Mac OS 9 and OS X: The file is located under hard drive:applications:lexia learning systems:llscommon on each client machine, in a default installation.
