Description

The following are best practices for a network installation.

Explanation

Overview

·         Comply with system requirements

·         Use cabled network over wireless where possible

Server Install (Database)

·         Run the server install on a server or dedicated workstation (no installation on Novell servers).

·         Open port 51773 on database server

·         Install a connections file for more than 5 concurrent users (contact customer support)

Student Software

·         Install the Lexia programs on each student machine—Lexia programs have lots of graphics and sound files, so to make sure you have optimal performance do not install the program files on a server for all users to share.

·         You must update your student software to Admin 1.2 or greater

·         Download program updates

·         Set your network options in the Lexia Admin to use Server-Side control. Do not use Client-Side control on a network installation. Do this prior to entering serial numbers, etc.

·         Input your serial numbers.

·         Put passwords on all sysadmin, keyadmin and class accounts

·         If you have QRT, put a password on QRT.

·         Make sure dates on the server and workstations are set correctly (Lexia products require mm/dd/yyyy format).

Maintenance

·         Use the Lexia Data Monitor to keep your database healthy

·         Make regular backups of database

·         Start with a clean database at the start of the new school year
