When
a Lexia product is launched after the host computer has been awakened
from sleep, it will communicate with the Lexiaserver
database very slowly. The student will experience normal speed
while in an activity, but whenever a network read/write takes place,
there can be delays in excess of 30 seconds.
This
issue seems to be related to how sleep is implemented on newer Apple
portables. The problem has been confirmed on Intel-based Laptops
(i.e. MacBook and MacBook
Pro. The MacBook Air will likely be affected).
During testing, this issue has not appeared on any i386 desktop
computers nor on any PowerPC-based computer running 10.5, nor on any OS X
machine (Intel or PowerPC) running 10.4.11 or earlier.
All reads
and writes seem to be taking place normally (albeit slowly) and the data
appears to be correct the database. Progress gets saved and
subsequent program launches reflect appropriate history.
Workarounds:
1)
Don't close the lid on the laptop or otherwise sleep the computer if
possible prior to launching Lexia.
2) If
the computer has been put to sleep, it will need to be rebooted prior to
launching Lexia so the product can run at normal speed.
