Lexia Tech Note #100503

Why don't I branch to the next level sometimes when I receive perfect scores in an activity?

Lexia Program Cross-Trainer
Version V1.01+ (all programs in the Cross-Trainer Suite)
Platforms Affected All
Symptom

Users receive perfect scores but do not branch to next level, causing frustration and/or confusion about what performance is necessary in order to advance throughout the program.

Solution or Explanation

The branching technique used in Cross-Trainer is a combination of two factors:

  1. the current score in the task just completed; and
  2. an historical average of the user's task performance.

In order for users to advance to higher levels of an activity, both values above must be at or above a "near-perfect" rating (usually a 9.5). For example, a user may receive a perfect score in Cubes at the end of level 4, but they will not be promoted to level 5 if they have had trouble with the previous several tasks completed.

Historical information for student performance is available in the 'Daily Session Details' Report in the Admin tool. A full description of all reports is available in the Teacher Guide in section 5.6-5.8.
