Platforms Affected Mac 10.4.x
Description

Apple changed the permissions model on the /Library/StartupItems folder with the introduction of Macintosh OS 10.4. This folder now has root ownership and a mode of 755. This created problems with the LexiaServer installation not being seen in the Activity Monitor. If Server Installation is chosen during install, the installation program will detect the OS as being 10.4.x and will give a warning that LexiaServer cannot be installed. The other symptom is no Lexia program access from workstations.

Installing Lexia Server to a MacIntosh OS 10.4.x Server:

1. Download the Database Service (OSX) from the Downloads section of the Lexia website.

2. The installer will ask for authentication for an admin user when launched and set all file permissions as required.  All the user will need to know is the name and password of an administrator.

3. Click on the downloaded file to extract the LexiaServer package to your server machine. Click on the package and follow the installation instructions to install the Lexia Server.

When the Lexia Server has finished installing the service will start automatically. If it does not, try shutting down and then powering back up again.

Log on as the Administrator. Go to Utilities, Activity Monitor, choose All Processes. You should see "LexiaServer" as started in your processes.
