Lexia Tech Note #203002: Why do I get a message to notify the teacher when running the student software?

Solution

The "Notify Teacher" error usually occurs when the Lexia Reading student software is unable to make contact with Lexia's servers, or when an established connection is lost.

Notify Teacher errors may also be accompanied by an error code, which can be useful to Customer Support in providing a diagnosis.

Some common error codes include:

  • 1002- The student software timed out while attempting to contact MyLexia.com.
  • 1029, 1030 or 1031- The network is down, or a firewall or proxy is blocking the software from accessing MyLexia.com. This may also occur when an established conenction is lost, such as when a wireless signal is briefly interrupted. The student software requires a constant connection to the internet.
  • 1057- SSL (port 443) traffic is being blocked by a firewall or proxy. By default, the student software will use SSL for communicating across the internet.

Students using version 5.1 of the student software may also receive a Notify Teacher error when launching the student software if they have not previously been assigned to one of the Lexia programs by their teacher. Version 6 includes auto-placement, which will automatically evaluate a student and assign him or her into the proper program and level, making manual assignment unnecessary.
