Lexia Tech Note #201003
Solution: |
When a user modifies a configuration file (such as Lexia Reading®'s "login.ini" file) located within a protected folder such as the Program Files folder, Windows 7 and Vista may create a duplicate of the file, known as a shadow copy, and use that instead of the original. This is done to protect other users from the changes made. Unfortunately, a side-effect of this is that when an administrator makes an intentional change to Lexia Reading's settings using the ‘a’ and ‘s’ keys to get into the General Settings screen, this change may not propagate to other users. Other users will still use the original version of the configuration file, while the administrator's changes are reflected in the shadow copy restricted to his or her account. The shadow copy of a file is located in: C:\users\your_user_name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files
To change the Lexia Reading’s General Settings, so that the change will propagate to all users, you must edit the login.ini file, within C:\Program Files (x86)\Lexia\LLSCommon. When you edit this file with NotePad and Save the file, the default permissions on the file will not allow you to save them in the LLSCommon folder. So you can do one of two things:
If you have changed the General Settings while logged as any other user, you will need to go into their Virtual Store folder and delete the copy of login.ini there, so that they will then start using the updated copy you put into the C:\Program Files(x86)\Lexia\LLSCommon folder. |
