Lexia Tech Note #202007

Software is slow or stops working

Solution:

After loading Lexia Reading on a Mac OSX 10.6.4 system successfully, Lexia Reading® is very slow to start up, and is very slow between screens in the program.

On Mac OSX 10.6.4 systems, if you are seeing extreme slowness, we recommend turning off “Check for Updates” and SSL. To make these changes, make sure Lexia is stopped, then double click on the Lexia icon, and then hold down the ‘a’ and ‘s’ keys, and keep holding them down until the General Settings screen comes up. Because of the slow start up of Lexia, this could take some time. Once the General Settings screen comes up, uncheck the “Check for Updates” box and remove the ‘s’ from “https” in the Server URL. Then hit Save.  The Lexia Reading® startup time and response time should improve dramatically.

After 10/29/2010, Lexia Reading® stopped working. My student now gets “Notify your teacher” and the detail reports a 1029 network status error.

If you have McAfee anti-virus, you may have seen Lexia stop working after the 10/29/2010 McAfee updates. Instead of connecting normally, Lexia will abort with a “Notify Your Teacher” error, and the detail button shows a Network Status Error: 1029.

To resolve this, you will need to add the 2 Lexia URLs to the exception list within McAfee. The 2 Lexia URLs are:
