Lexia Tech Note #201013
Solution: |
Many parents protect their children’s Internet activities using built-in Mac OS X Parental Controls. Below is an explanation of the steps you can take to make Lexia Reading work with Mac Parental Controls.
Below are pictures from a Mac 10.5 system that are examples of taking the steps above. 1. Open the Parental Controls in System Preferences. The Parental Controls window opens and the System tab is selected. Click on the Content tab of the Parental Controls panel to allow access to Lexia Reading’s websites.
Click the ‘+’ on the bottom of the Content screen to add the student.mylexia.com and update.lexialearning.com websites. When you click on the ‘+’ sign a Web site title box pops up. Enter both websites.
2. Now click on the System tab. If you have “Only allow selected applications” checked, you will want to “Allow” the Lexia Reading application for your student. DO NOT select or unselect Lexia in the Parental Controls list of “applications to allow” – this will cause a “Director Player Error: Unable to load movie playlist. Does the .INI file exist? It must contain a section ‘[Movies]’ with an entry ‘Movie01=Pathname.dir’.” Instead, follow these steps:
If you do see this error, uninstall Lexia by dragging it from Applications into the Trash. Also go into Parental Controls and unselect Lexia as an allowed application (all of them). Then logout as Admin, log back in, and follow the instructions above to install and allow Lexia Reading. |
