Sometimes when you install Lexia Reading on Windows, the shortcut to Lexia Reading is visible on the desktop when logged in as the Administrator, but not when logged in as the student.
To create a shortcut to Lexia Reading for the student,
- First login as the Administrator. Open up My Computer (or Computer for Windows 7) using either the desktop icon or the Start menu.
- Double click on (C:). This opens up the list of folders on (C:)
- Then double click on “Program Files”. This opens up the Program Files folder. Double click on the Lexia folder
- Drag the scroll bar on the right side down until you can see the Lexia icon. Now right click on the Lexia.exe icon, and select Create Shortcut.
- On Windows 7, you will need to save the shortcut to your desktop.
Now to move this shortcut to the “All Users” Desktop:
- Right on the new shortcut you just created and select Copy.
- Then use the back arrow up above to go back up twice to get back to (C:).
- On Windows XP, double click on Documents and Settings, then on All Users and then on Desktop to view the All Users/Desktop folder. Then right click in that folder and select Paste.
- On Windows 7, double click on Users, then on Public, and then on Desktop to view the Public/Desktop folder. [The Public Desktop folder is hidden, so you will need to “Show hidden Files and Folders” in Organize->Folder Options->View] Then right click in that folder and select Paste.
- Then right click on the shortcut, select “Rename”, and rename the shortcut to be Lexia Reading.
- Now logoff as Administrator, login as the student, and verify that the Lexia Reading shortcut is there. Double click on the Lexia Reading icon to verify that Lexia Reading opens without error for the student.
