Embedded Assessment

Assessment Without Testing™. Not just progress; a revolution.

Lexia’s Assessment Without Testing technology is an embedded assessment system that provides educators with actionable, norm-referenced performance data without interrupting the flow of instruction to administer a test. Based on student skill level and rate of progress, the system predicts each student’s chance of reaching an end-of-year benchmark, and prescribes instructional intensity to improve performance on grade-level assessments. The system also delivers detailed, real-time reports on students’ specific skill deficits and recommends targeted instructional materials to accelerate skill development.

Performance Predictor:
Based on student skill level and rate of progress, the performance predictor indicates each student’s chance of reaching the end-of-year benchmark for his or her grade level. Calculated on a monthly basis, the performance predictor is a norm-referenced measure of risk of reading failure.

Prescription of Intensity:
Based on each student’s performance predictor, Lexia Reading prescribes the level of instructional intensity needed to increase the student’s probability of reaching the end-of-year benchmark. This monthly measure includes the number of minutes the student should use the software, as well as recommendations for targeted instruction.

Actionable data at the district, school, class, and student level.

Lexia Reading provides educators with actionable, assessment-quality data, allowing them to measure and analyze progress in real-time. The program’s embedded assessment technology provides granular, skill-specific data for every student, without ever having to administer a test. This approach reduces dependence on traditional reading tests and allows the reallocation of time and budget to support instruction.
