Alignments & Correlations
To succeed in the 21st century, all students need to perform to high standards and acquire mastery of rigorous core subject material. Alignments to rigorous curriculum frameworks and correlations to commonly used progress-monitoring tools help us focus teaching and learning systems around the right college and career-ready outcomes for all students.
WIDA PRIME V2 Correlation
Lexia Reading Core5® has been recognized by WIDA as satisfying all 44 criteria under the WIDA PRIME V2 Correlation for English Language Development Standards. This designation provides further credibility for Lexia’s research-proven instructional program, which is currently used by more than 2.6 million students, and has been shown to help ELL students close the academic gap.
WIDA is a consortium of more than 30 states dedicated to the design and implementation of high academic standards for English language learners (ELLs). The WIDA PRIME V2 Correlation is designed to assist educators in making informed decisions about selecting instructional materials for language education programs.
This correlation highlights the important ways in which Core5 helps language learners develop English literacy skills. Specific examples in the correlation note that Core5:
Builds academic language at the discourse, sentence, and word/phrase level
Connects language development standards to state academic content standards
Challenges all learners at all levels of language proficiency
Provides scaffolding supports for students to advance
Strongly Correlated to Commonly Used Assessments
Lexia’s Assessment Without Testing technology gathers norm-referenced student performance data without stopping to administer a test. These measures are correlated to—and highly predictive of—commonly used assessments including STAR, MAPⓇ, DIBELS Next, and AIMSwebⓇ.
Correlations were conducted to determine the strength of the relationship between progress through Lexia and outside measures of reading ability. Performance data from Lexia was significantly and positively correlated with four progress monitoring measures. In general, these correlations were rated as “medium” to “high” correlations, which are considered strong in evaluating assessment tools.
Alignment to Common Core State Standards
To ensure success in the 21st century, students must meet rigorous state standards, including the Common Core, and master core subject material. These learning goals guide the content in our programs and help ensure students can achieve international competitive standards.
Lexia Reading Core5 aligns with the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Literacy, including foundational skills, literature, informational text, and language. Additionally, Core5's embedded assessment provides actionable, real-time data to drive instructional decisions and monitor progress towards CCSS.
