Required Modification for Deploying the MSI Package

Solution:

Microsoft has a technology that administrators can use to remotely distribute the Lexia Reading student software to multiple computers. See Microsoft help article “How to use Group Policy to remotely install software in Windows Server 2003” (links to Microsoft).

An administrator can download Lexia Reading’s MSI package from Lexia Reading Student Software Downloads page (after accepting the license agreement).

Before deploying the MSI package, you need to edit the Login.ini configuration file within the package, with a MSI editor such as Orca. You must assign the sixteen digit customer code (including the dashes) to the customer ID. Otherwise, the first time the student runs Lexia Reading, the program displays the General Settings configuration screen instead of a login screen.

Editing the MSI using Orca

Here are some other values you may need to modify.

  • Proxy Address – IP address of your school proxy server (without the http:// or https://).
  • Proxy Port – Port used to access the proxy server (without the http:// or https://).
  • Proxy User – This is the username requested by the proxy server.
  • Proxy Password – This is the password for the username entered.
  • Local settings Password default 0. Setting it to 1 hides the student’s password
  • Local settings Screen size default notfullscreen. Setting it to fullscreen .changes the screen resolution to 800 x 600. Notfullscreen uses the default screen resolution and puts a black border around the application to hide the desktop.

Important note: each field has an initial blank character that you must delete when you enter your value.

You should not edit other values unless you are instructed to do so by Lexia Customer Support.

For a further description of these settings see the Configuring Lexia Reading section in the Lexia Reading Installation Instructions starting on page 9. http://www.lexialearning.com/files/support/LexiaReadingInstallationInstructions.pdf
