Inicio a la Lectura helps young Spanish-speaking children develop phonemic awareness in their native language before transitioning to English. The software helps pre-readers learn to isolate the sounds of familiar words in order to apply phonics later as a word-attack strategy for reading and spelling, incorporating proven methods used to teach reading in Spanish.
Children navigate increasingly complex exercises in sound identification, rhyming, word structure and sound discrimination, and the software automatically provides extra practice when needed. Inicio a la Lectura also helps students build vocabulary and provides practice following directions.
